The World's News - The hard facts about the the global economic arena

Free Trade is not trade. It is primarily about moving production from place to place anywhere in the world for the sake of cheaper labor. The value of workers and labor has been degraded and deflated. This represents trillions of dollars lost in the process

Workers Betrayed

The U.S. Federal Government sponsored the moving of factories outside the U.S starting in 1956 - it was a temporary program that never ended.

Free Trade and Globalization did not evolve in any natural economic way. It was driven by elite groupings in government and big business. This was Teddy Roosevelt's worst fear for America.

Scary stuff. I agree with your argument about shipping costs as a reason why the factories in Mexico are still running despite China being cheaper. I think as the standard of living and wages rise in these countries some manufacturing will come back to the USA for the same reason. It's a temporary readjustment to help these other countries catch up.

This has been over a 50 year "temporary adjustment" to so called Free Trade better defined as "Portable Factories". It cause themost massive dislocation of jobs in U.S. history including the Great Depression and hurricane Katrina in New Orleans exposed a silent depression residing across our land while two President proclaimed a statistical prosperity. This is not trade and it will never be trade.

The editorial cartoon below, we first published in 1994- that's 13 years ago - millions lost their jobs. President Bush was added to the cartoon in 2001 riding shotgun as the new Doctor Strangelove of our times following President Clinton who led the way.

One third over 55 who lost their jobs, never found another one. Many lost everything they worked for entire life to save. A message in our church bulleting said this for many weeks - "success is reaching Social Security age before having to declare bankruptcies. The largest group going bankrupt now are the older generations due to this.
I would hate to describe this as something only a "temporary adjustment".

Finally, The Wall Street Journal had an article titled Republicans Grow Skeptical On Free Trade - October 4, 2007 - Washington - " By a nearly two-to-one margin, Republican voters believe free trade is bad for the U.S. economy..... mirrors Democratic views.....
It took over 13 years for this to get published after NAFTA and GATT were passed. If the untold story behind this was revealed back then, Free Trade would have been dropped from the beginning.
