Unemployment rate in the U.S. is Fiction
The CNN Newscaster asks viewers to pick out the unemployment rate in a multible choice question. The answer is based on government reporting. They should really ask the viewers what they think the real unemployment rate is in the USA. All you have to do is trace back to the way unemployment was reported in the past and look around at all those who are out of a job completely or those who are considered employed who make only about a $100 a month - and know something is really not kosher.
They could also observe how the news channels report those who are receiving unemployment insurance. The newscasts report increases and government extensions etc, but they never report how many workers actually qualify for unemployment insurance in the USA. Only about 38 percent of all workers in the USA qualify for unemployment.
The next question to ask is what is the other 62 percent of workers doing and what happens when they lose their jobs.
In Ohio, like in many other states, the reported jobless rate is rising. It is reported as 11 percent being unemployed. Aaron Marshall, reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer says - "Yep, the little known fact about the unemployment rates is that they count only people who are actively seeking work, so if you are so discouraged by the job market that you have given up hope, then you aren't unemployed. National labor experts say this generally adds about 2 percent more to the unemployment number, so it's not a stretch to say that an Ohio county with 18 percent unemployment really that ---- it adds up to 18 percent unemployment ---- really has one out of five people out of work.----" --- more like 20 to 25 percent. The underemployment rate is perhaps about 50 percent.
The rate is actually even higher according to other comparisons. In the 1990s Getting American Working reported that 50 percent of human resources in the U.S. are not being used. The unemployment bureau finally admitted publicly that 4 million workers were unemployed but not counted as such because they gave up looking for work. In my opnion, the number is most likely much more than just 4 million workers just by noting the increasing numbers in the working poor class. The real unemployment rate most likely compares with the rate during the Great Depression and back then there was much more mutual help for those who were out of a job. And you could buy ground beef for only 25 cents for three pounds.
Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans exposed a vast underclass living in a silent depression across the U.S.A.. Last night, on 60 Minutes, they said if some parts of our major cities were overseas, the USA would be sending them help. We now have miles of major streets in the USA that look like an invading army came through. Both major parties in the USA joined together in the pushing Free Trade and Globalization which caused the most massive dislocation of jobs in U.S. history including the Great Depression. President Obama ignores all this while he bails out the financial community that caused the problems and then puts them back in charge of Free Trade.
