President Obama's " little talk to students " was rejected my many parents
Many school districts in the U.S. did not make the President Obama's noon address available to students due to a nationwide uproar concerned about President Obama's comments would be politically charged.
I was more concerned about his hidden message on work and who pays the toll for all the jobs the president mentioned.
The President said this:
No matter what you want to do with your life - I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member fo our military? You're going to need a good education for every single one of those a careers.
This sounds good, but what is wrong about it?
All the jobs we mentioned, with the exception of perhaps wanting to be an architect, require funding from the Federal Government through taxes on workers in the private sector.
Think about it. A doctor, teacher, police officer, nurse, lawyer or a member of the military are paid in whole or in part by a tax base in one form or another depending on workers who are part of the private sector. The President did not tell these students they need other people to first make money and pay out a large portion of their incomes so that they can enjoy these service jobs. The President said nothing about teachers and police making twice the amount that many parents only make in the private sector. It shows the President is not in tune with the real world of workers earning their daily bread for themselves and giving part of it to support all the services related to governments.
The President also said this:
We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems, If you don't do that - if you quit on school - you're not just quitting on yourself, you're quitting on your country.
First of all, I wonder who the "we" are in these days of all the talk about the global village and "we" should be the people. I suggest that our children did not quit on our country but people like President Obama did. Free Trader Globalists like President Obama have shipped good paying jobs outside of our country . Currently, there are six unemployed people for every job available. This does not add up.
The U.S. desparately needs good paying jobs in the private sector and not only to support the service jobs but also to have a real economy based on the value of all workers. Free Trade has devalued workers who pay the bills for services. Things like health care and other service jobs are out of sync because the value of work has been degraded. There is no balance. The U.S. has gone through the most massive dislocation of jobs in its history with a new working class created. This is what President Obama should be telling the children and be ready to answer this question. Who said we had to compete like this with one another in a global economic arena?
