Alot of news about Jobs but no Jobs
What does it cost to create one new job and what was the cost of all the jobs that were lost
Our city newspaper frequently writes about the best companies and jobs. Most of the examples were small companies with about only a 100 workers or so.
Stan Parulus responds with a letter to the editor this way.
...." I read with interest.... about the top workplaces in the area. With so many out of work, those people should thank their lucky stars that they work for great company that treats its employees fairly and compensates them accordingly.
.... All of us would love to work for companies like the ones in the article. Unfortunately, we have placed in a positions where we have to make ends meet. We are not asking for handouts. We just want a fair shot at getting back to workd. ........ I wonder how many people the companies in these articles have hired in the last two months....."
The companies mentioned in the articles were mostly relatively small companies with less than 100 to 300 employees. These examples do nothing to reflect the realities of our times. I still have my customer and prospect call book that I carried with me for more than twenty years. It contains many companies that once employed 5,000 or more workers. They gone now. Many lasted more than fifty years but in a brief space of time lost out due to globalization and free trade. NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA and the WTO tossed them out like garbage in the global economic arena where the cost of labor rules the process. The real commodities being traded worldwide are workers. Human beings are traded on a world trading block to compete with one another for the same jobs down to the lowest levels of wage slave and even child labor.
Our news outlets like the Plain Dealer in our city choose to ignore this process while they cite a few places with just few employees as the place to be. They hardly ever talk about how NAFTA , GATT etc being the cause the most massive dislocation of workers in U.S. history and what it takes to create just one new jobs. Just imagine the billions of dollars lost in the value of workers and labor since free trade took over. The value of workers and labor is about the only true tangible asset left in the world.
Reportedly, it takes about a million dollars to create just one job with other reports showing how certain government programs have used up to eight million dollars to create just one new job. Just think how many new small businesses could have been created with this money and how many big companies could have been saved. Thousands of small computer businesses went out of business in less than a decade due to free trade and globalization. As you use your latest electronic gadget coming from the wage slave areas of the world, think about this. Maybe even text this article to someone out there in the social network world. Some may be sitting on their front door steps with nothing left to do. Free trade has provided them the leisure time they never expected or wanted.
